Dear Mr. Gore,
I wish to congratulate you on behalf of
the city of Modiin-Maccabim-Re'ut,
"The Environment Capital of Israel",
on receiving the Noble Peace Prize 2007
for your outstanding work in
spreading the vision of a clean,
sustainable and environmentally friendly
world in the near future,
and your campaign for alerting the world to the
dangers of climate change.
As deputy mayor in charge of
environmental protection of my city,
I have been very much influenced by
your actions,
especially your fabulous and priceless documentary film -
An Inconvenient
Truth.
It is hard to express the magnitude
your activity has had on the people of
this city.
We teach all the
city school children and educational staff the importance
of preserving
today's resources
(sustainability) so they will be around for the
use of future generations,
the importance of recycling, the importance of
alternative less-polluting
transportation,
the need to build green
buildings, the need to save energy in all facets of
life, the dangers of
climate change, etc.
Your movie and activities have been the
catalyst for a general environmental
trend
and way of life here day
after day.
The awareness you started is the main reason, in my
opinion,
that real change in our environment and behavior will
occur:
I feel that in your actions you are leading the world away
from
self-destruction.
Wars and destructive tools have been
around since the dawn of history,
but the real danger to mankind is
allowing to be destroyed what the Lord has
given us
- this
beautiful Earth. As our actions are diminishing the planet,
it is our
responsibility to learn and change and to improve our way
of
living;
you have chosen to lead the way.
As
a native-born American who moved to Israel 38 years ago as a
youngster,
and who has followed closely the American Presidency,
I
feel that your loss in 2000 when the Presidency was
unrightfully taken
from
you is America's loss,
but it is the world's gain of a leader showing the
world the right way.
I invite you to come to our city,
the City of the Maccabees,
who as yourself, led a new way, saving the
Jewish nation from assimilation
and destruction 2174 years ago,
and
today leads the environmental voyage in
Israel.
